Karina started to get frustrated with fly fishing, so Grant took us to a great fishing spot on the American river. Karina caught her very first salmon in the river. Its a Dog salmon, aka chum salmon. We couldn't find anyone in Kodiak who actually ate Dog salmon, but its regularly canned for consumption. We had to try this one out just to see if Kodiakians are just too picky about salmon, or if the meat really isn't that good. Also, Karina really wanted to try the roe. Dog salmon have the most beautiful roe.(sorry no pics.)
