Karina's looking questioningly at this rifle. Its a lever action Marlin 450. Its super powerful. It'd be the bear gun we bring to Karluk if we decide to bring on. It packs some serious recoil. Posted by Picasa

Gotta give props to Mr. Mete for his excellent instruction on marksmanship. Good teacher in the medical clinic as well. Posted by Picasa

Looking comfortable? (Mr. Mete's gonna kill me for not knowing my rifles, but I think that is a 30-30 hunting rifle, or perhaps something abit less powerful.) Posted by Picasa

Mr. Mete, my office mate, has taken Karina and I out a few times to shoot handguns (by the way, Karina is pretty much a dead shot when it comes to a handgun) . This is our first time shooting rifles. We're thinking about getting ready to go on the Karluck river where there are a bunch of big bears. A lot of consideration and back and forth has been going on about whether to bring a rifle or not. One thing is that we'd have to be comfortable with shooting it. We'll see. Posted by Picasa

This is the dough for Haw- Gau (chinese dim sum shrimp dumpling). Since there aren't any decent chinese restaurants on the island, we had to figure out our favorite dishes on our own. The dough called for tapioca starch and rice flour. Amazingly we did find some tapioca flour to substitute for the starch. Good thing for the huge filipino population. Posted by Picasa

Lots of great rocks and driftwood on the beaches. We always end up with pockets full of rocks and wood after a hike. Posted by Picasa

These pretty flowers come from the wild blue berry bushes around Kodiak. You can clip the branches when you start to see the buds. Bringing them inside causes the buds to bloom. I thought the blueberries would come out a few weeks after the buds started to appear, but blueberry picking doesn't really get into full swing until September-ish. Posted by Picasa

These are pictures of bunkers on Long Island, which is an island apart of Kodiak. I always imagine the WWII soldiers freezing their asses off in these little things looking at empty horizon for hours, days, weeks, and months on end. Posted by Picasa
