Here are the winners of the Crab Fest 2006 Bedrace. The theme for this year was Rock-n-Roll... some how i think this bed should get a few seconds added to there score for their poor attempt to match the theme, but at least we got 1st place for the Bed and Costumes. Posted by Picasa

Here's our debut to the Crab Fest excitement. The bed race!!! We actually made it to the final run-off, but lost in the end due to some faulty steering. Maybe next year. Posted by Picasa

CRAB FEST!!! Yippy. Lots of hype about Crab fest here in Kodiak. It happened to be the most beautiful 3 days all year. People are actually wearing shorts. These few days were hotter than any other day the rest of summer. What you're seeing here are 4 guys putting on survival suits. Its the annual survival suit race, and I think nearly 30 teams entered this year. Anyway, survival suits are these big clumsy thick neoprene suits that can keep you alive for hours in the freezing cold water of Alaska were your boat to sink. They're pretty tough to put on. Posted by Picasa

Here's a rookery. We were hoping to see puffins, but most of these birds are kittiwakes and seagulls. Posted by Picasa

Near sunset at the end of may. Its nice around this time because you can go out for a little hike or Kayak at 9:30pm. Its my favorite time to kayak. We're in our newly purchased Klepper double foldable kayak. You'll see more of her soon. Posted by Picasa

Gotta agree, the moss is pretty nice here. Posted by Picasa

Karina's taking a break before crossing. She's had a bit of a phobia about crossing crevices and such, but its getting better. Besides she gets to sit on her favorite thing... Moss!!! For those of you that know Kodiak, we're just beyond Buskin lake. Notice Karina's wearing her hip waiters... we were scouting for some fish, but didn't see any.

That's the, "Don't bother me, don't wake me up, I'm cozy in the cranberry patch" look. Posted by Picasa

This is from the Cranberry patch where we took a nap on in the sun. I'm pretty sure its called a low cranberry bush, which does produce "cranberries" but I think they are actually Lingonberries. That should make you happy if you have a taste for Swedish pancakes. Posted by Picasa

Yes, wonderful May in Kodiak. Notice the everlasting snow still present. This is Heightman trial. Its supposedly a easy hike up to the lake. Well that may be so if there isn't snow that comes up to your hips when stepping in particular areas. Karina was not happy about this hike at all. I think her exact words... "I'm never hiking in snow again." Posted by Picasa

This is our second Swing/Salsa dance party at the Rendezvous. Not a huge turn out, but we still had a good time. The Rendezvous is about 15 -20 minutes out of town, which is really far for Kodiak standards. The distance may have deterred some from coming, but as you may know, i'm all for a nice ambiance, a good dance floor, and a bar. Posted by Picasa
