After having such good eats all week long, we could barely fit Sven in; which wouldn't have been so bad if we didn't since seal seems to mess with Sven's gut too. Posted by Picasa

I was very sad to leave. That's our farewell party. Posted by Picasa

That's Sea Lion (actually eaten the night before). Its a bit tougher and tastes a bit more like the way a sea lion smells, which in my opinion is a bit gamey? Not bad at all though. I was suprised how lean both seal and sea lion are. Best eaten with spicy mustard. Posted by Picasa

That there is a SEAL rib. Seal is quite lean, tender, subtle flavor, and actually goes down wonderfully. Overall a tasty treat, but it does have a strange waxy after taste/feeling that seems to last for hours (dare i say days.) Posted by Picasa

The Alutiiq dancers! Posted by Picasa

Roland's spear thrower. He busted out this masterpiece within a few hours.... Meanwhile i've been working on this tiny little mask for days. Posted by Picasa

Mr. Big. A wise soul since birth. Perhaps Akhiok's next leader. Posted by Picasa

More sanding (notice how much nicer the kids' boxes look than mine. Must be in the genes.) Posted by Picasa

Nearly finished. The kids buffing out the last little rough spots with sands paper. That's Christopher on the left and Jonathan on the right. Posted by Picasa

Gettin' ready for eatin. Posted by Picasa

Sven got a Ptarmigan (Alaska's state bird.) We battered him a bit with flour, fried him up... and yum! Posted by Picasa

First time having Fresh King Crab. There's actually plenty of King Crab in Kodiak, but its all been processed in the cannery before sold. Processing involves cooking the crab in brine and freezing. Gotta say Fresh King Crab (like Fresh off the boat Salmon) is a whole different experienc. Posted by Picasa

Gotta love FRESH King Crab. Posted by Picasa

And that was the small King Crab!!! Posted by Picasa

In order to pull up the crab pot, you need two boats. One to pull the rope, and the other to pull the rope across. Posted by Picasa

Mitch and Tony at the bow of the boat. And if I thought the wind on the beach was like knives... On the open skiff its like chainsaws. Posted by Picasa
